Thrissur Pooram...most colorful festival in Kerala. Thousands of fanatics from all over the world crowded the famous Vadakkunathan temple in Thrissur Kerala's cultural capital in every year on Pooram day. Thrissur Pooram was initiated by Raja Rama Varma, famously known as Sakthan Thampuran, the Maharaja of Cochin (1790–1805). The festival is marked with a spectacular procession of elephants, chromatic Kudamattom, cadenced Ilanjitharamelam and night-long fireworks. On the Pooram day plethora of elephants decorated with golden caparison, strikingly crafted Kolam, decorative bells, and ornaments. During the celebration of this mass festival, the temples ordered into two groups, namely "Paramekkavu side" and "Thiruvambady side". The notable part of the pooram is its secular nature, most of the decoration works are crafted by the Muslim community.
